Wideband RF amplifiers that work over multi-octave bandwidths present unique challenges that Triad RF has solved with almost two decades of experience. Several of our present designs are integrated in military/commercial comm links, RF/Microwave test equipment, and UAV data links.
We use whichever transistor technology (GaN, GaAs & LDMOS) fits the application best to produce the highest linearity while consuming the least amount of DC power so as not to create unwanted heat.
All of our PAs have DC sections with features that promote easy system integration and worry-free operation. These include protection against over, under, and reverse voltage conditions. Additionally, modules are available with our Versatile DC Supply (VDSTM) technology which incorporates an internal wide input range (+9V to +33V) DC-DC conversion section into the amplifier. This technology simplifies system designs by eliminating the need for external DC converters to power the PA. This approach contributes to greater overall system efficiency, since the DC to DC converter is designed and matched for peak efficiency with respect to the DC power draw of the amplifier.
We have also integrated advanced built-in PA monitoring and control sections that are powered by microprocessor, Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA), and Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD) ICs. Functions include forward and reflected RF power measurement, PA temperature, DC monitoring to the device level, transmit/receive switching, and bias compensation over temperature and VSWR conditions. Many other configurable alarms and warnings can be tailored to the customer’s system requirements.
